The Plan

Now that I know I can get a refund minus $100 for my impromptu British Airways purchase upon arrival in South Africa, or change the dates for $50, I need to quickly decide how much time to spend in the region (can you believe I've already been here almost a month?).

If I were at the start of my RTW trip, I would be booking a long overland tour from Vic Falls to Nairobi but with less money in the bank, I want to be more conservative.

Here are the options I'm giving myself….please help me decide!

PS – due to internet bandwith limitations (or should I say price structures by ISP's), I am at a standstill for uploading photographs.  Please let me know if you want me to continue posting daily without pictures, or post less frequently (every 2-3 days) with a picture or two (I'll sneak them up)!

Planning a trip? Go Backpacking uses and recommends:

  • G Adventures for small group tours
  • Skyscanner for researching flights
  • Hostelworld for booking hostels
  • Airbnb for renting rooms and homes
  • Rail Europe for train passes
  • World Nomads for travel insurance

How much $ you got left for the trip? My answer would depend on that.

Mozambique, definitely. Everyone who I know who’s been raves about, it’s stunningly beautiful and still relatively unspoilt.

I had a tough time voting, but ultimately went for Victoria Falls. At the same time, I can’t imagine going through Africa without doing a safari! (I’m not a big fan of beaches, so while they might be beautiful in Mozambique like Geoff said, they’re just beaches in my mind.)

And I think your photos make your posts that much more real and interesting, so I wouldn’t mind you spacing out the entries but with photos. :)

You could always upload photos to Flickr and then use their HTML code to paste them into your posts. That’s how I host my photos on my photography blog

South America is easily accessible($) from the US. It may be a long time before you get to Africa again.

I’d say less is more  . Better visit fewer countries and be able to really explore and experience them, then run around more continents and scrape the surfaces. You’re there now anyway Livingston!

I agree….as evidenced by my month in South Africa already!! ;)
