Northern Italy offers some spectacular backpacking scenery.

For a more relaxing experience, head to the beautiful Lake Como or coastal Portofino, only two hours’ drive from Milan.

This is a taste of paradise, which isn’t as expensive as you might think.
You can find great deals to this part of Asia, and with some research, it’s easy to find local digs and food to make up the deficit in flights costs.

Provence, South of France
If you’re looking for a simple yet beautiful way of life, go to Provence in the heart of the French countryside.
With outstanding poppy and lavender fields, rolling hills, hot temperatures, fine cheeses, and bold wines, Provence is the authentic French experience.

These all sound like amazing places to soak up a little summer sun. Bali is SO on my list! I'm spending most of my summer in and around the Lake District in NW England, which I suspect is going to feel a little less tropical... Maybe one of these for a little winter sunshine though?

Glad Provence is mentioned, since it's where I come from ! I have to say it is dedinitely a must-do ! Although I tend to flee the summertime there as it can get very crowded.
